Today I take a day trip down to Bruny Island by ferry from Kettering. The trip takes around fifteen minutes, with the ease of taking my car, I will be able to travel around the island within a day. It is a sunny Tuesday morning with a coffee and a bagel in my hand I am ready for an action packed day. It has been a few years since I had last visited the beautiful island, and as I relax on the ferry eating my breakfast I reminisce of my times spent on the land. My thoughts are filled with breathtaking scenery, food and animals. Although I am only spending a day here on the island, you can easily spend a few days here relaxing, camping or self contained accommodation is also available. My first stop is at the Get shucked Oyster Farm where I sample beautiful Bruny Island oysters. Although I am still full from breakfast, I manage to eat a dozen oysters. My next stop takes me to Bruny Island Cheese Company, I have heard many great things about this cheese company, and after sampling its cheeses, it does not disappoint! The scenery of this place is spectacular, the vast countryside is simply amazing, and there is nothing more relaxing than this place.
After gorging on food all morning I take a trip to Truganini Lookout, located at The Neck the lookout takes you to breathtaking 360 degree views. The fresh sea air is invigorating and if you stay for the night why not see penguins and shearwaters on twilight tours in the breeding season, those penguins are very cute. My next stop takes me to Bruny Island Premium Wines where I taste their delicious red and white wines, taking in the views and writing a few blogs while I am getting the inspiration. Cape Bruny and Cloudy Bay are located at the far south of the island, every year Cloudy Bay hosts the Bruny Island Surfing Championships. It is not hard to see why this area is so popular for surfing, the beach waters are a surfers dream with giant waves. I drive back to Hobart feeling refreshed and with a thirst of knowledge and inspiration, I am ready for greater adventures to come.
